How did Kiki come to the idea of Ray?
That's a long story! *sweatdrop*
Linda and I used to write stories a lot! It all started with a Spice-Girl-look-a-like band called The Walls. And we just weote they had kids and continued writing and writing about it.
And after like 30 stories later, Linda lost her interest in writing, but I kept it. I love making up stories XD
So I kept thinking about all the stories I wanted to make and finally came up with Ray, when I was doodling at Hobbes' campsite. I had the idea of this movie called Basketball Diaries in my head. Its a good movie and I wasn't interested in the drug-abuse that was going on, but in the fact that those boys were on their own. Only having eachother to really rely on. I loved that idea so much, I started to doodle Ray a little.
I also got introduced with Gundam Wing Doujinshi and along with that: YAOI. I really wanted to try making a yaoi story! So that's how Ray turned out to be yaoi.
Did Kiki's first idea (the doodle) of Ray change much?
Owww yesh. Loads!
The first drawing was very ugly and I didnt have a clear view of Ryan either! I did know that I had Ray and Mike, and I needed 2 more people. I draw a quiet guy with long black hair and I loved that one. Ryan always remained a blur, until I drew him for the manga.
But I was mainly focused on Ray and Mike.
Ray was closed up guy in the beginning, a person who didn't felt understood and didn't like his father for always being away to his planet.
Mike was a smirking pile of shit. He was just the typical though boy, daring Ray into 'things'. I'd created the idea of this oldfashioned home they had to go to, where being gay was a big no. And Mike just felt like scaring the living daylight out of the 'teamleaders' by hitting on Ray.
But it wasn't the story I was happy with. It wasn't really a challange for me and I couldn't really think of any place Ray would be send to.
How did Kiki come up with a Psychiatric Center?
In the Netherlands you can go to highschool for 4, 5 or 6 years, then go to a University (only if you are smart and went to school for 5 or 6 years) or go to a Profession-college. Meaning: You learn for a profession, any thing you like.
So I picked Elementary School Assistant Teacher.
Yesh, it was so much fun. We learned a lot about children who needed extra attention, disorders and diseases. I loved learning about it.
I also loved the classes about behaviour. I always try to let my characters react on their own typical way. XD I think about reactions a lot, before I draw them.

How did Kiki come up with the character Ray?
I love black hair, so my main character got black hair. Hehe. I never thought of his eyes being more yellow then brown, before I colored my first Ray picture.
I didn't like the way Ray was first in my doodle. He was a closed up guy with a lot of alien streight and the ability to fly. But that was all! I didn't felt like he really had a soul yet.
So I doodled more and more and Ray opened up to be a really kind, sweet, insecure guy, who didn't know how to deal with the 'Seductive' Mike.
I thought about how hard it must be for him to have those powers, not having a father around for long periods of his life to teach him how to handle the powers. His mother is the only save haven for him and he don't want to go to school because he knows he's different from the other kids.
Ray got a soul, he was real to me.
I knew he was a person who was so nice, but so afraid of the world around him, even though he could easily use those powers to scare the world.

How did Kiki came up with Mikey then?
Typically, I needed a blond opposite. Opposites attract. It's more pretty when you draw them together.
Blue eyes was easy too. I didn't want him to stand out. I don't like stand out characters that much. I just want them to look normal, like an every day guy.
I always think normal people have a right to be in stories too, and not ony mister Gorgeous and his gf Miss Big Boob.
Mike in the beginning, gowd, he was so creepy. The shower scene I once drew, ow gowd. But I just doodled. I doodled Ray and Mike during my whole vacation in Spain! And Mike had the leading role in his and Ray's relationship. He was secure, was bored and had fun with freaking people out.
But I didn't like it. So I drew him blushing, when he noticed Ray noticed him looking at him. And it was so cute. So I thought Mike would find out he liked Ray, but really didn't know how to deal with it.
And that idea was so appealing. So, well, Mikey became more and more alive to me as well. A guy who acts though, but in real life really doesn't have a clue how to deal with all the crap that's happening!
The Who and How of Ryan!
How I love Ryan! I never had a clear image of him. So I was brainstorming about him a lot when I came with the idea of creating a Psychiatric Center. I wanted him to have a disorder of some sort.
I don't know how and when, but I just saw him with this giddy face, saying: "You know, if I stick this knife in his chest, he could die..."
And Ray eyeing him, really not feeling comfortable, mumbling: "I don't think you're supposed to use that knife for that, Ryan."
And Ryan remaining to be giddy: "Really? Ow...okay."
And it was so cute. I just liked the idea of him being so cheery, but at the same time having the most horrifying ideas in his head. Not being realistic at all, losing touch with reality multiple times a day and just being totally crazy and hyper when he had to be.
But also the one person who knew everything and everybody. He would see through a lot of things, without really being aware of it most of the times.
He's a very good secret-keeper and he never gets really suprised by things.
Excepts for the fact that Mike gets so angry over his excentric behaviour. XD
The Who and How of Matt!
I've always known how I wanted Matt to look like.
In the beginning he did move and talk, but rather spend his time meditating or something. I don't know. I just liked him being the silent guy, who would speak up when the situation asked for it, you know. The smart guy who doesn't speak until danger is coming XD
And I developed Matt, he didn't got this: I'm so bored by you people-attitude, anymore. But I just kept one motto for him: "Some things are important, but most things are completly useless!"
So that's Matt. I mean, I was like: I could make him move a little, or look at people. But then I was like: well, its completly useless. What reason would he have for moving? Why making all those armwaving things, when you really don't gain anything with it? Why talk? What's really interesting to share?
So that was my Matt. But I needed him to be involved with Ray, he needed to appear in Ray's life! Pronto!
Ray is a really calm guy and I just thought Matt would feel good around him, maybe Ray's aura is really squirrel-free, I don't know. I just knew Matt liked being around Ray.
Eventually I came up with a good reason for Matt being so attracted to Ray (in a friendly way, people, no threesome), but I'm not gonna spoil it! Muhahaha!

How did Kiki came up with such lame names?
Hehe, I think they are lame names. I mean: MIKE?!
It's such a typical name. But seriously, I saw him and I was like: Mmmmyup, that's a Mikey alright.
And I've made up the name Ray, cuz Hobbes was obsessed with Rayman back then. And I was thinking about it and thought I found Ray a really pretty name. Not long, but short and strong. So that was Ray.
And Mikey suited that perfectly in my eyes.
Ryan, ow dear, Ryan. How did I came up your name? I have absolutly no idea! I like that name!
I've always loved the name Matt. Ever since Digimon on tv XD Hehe, I loved Matt to death. And I saw more movies, read stories, with the name Matt appearing in it, and i just loved it so much! I've loved that name for years and years!
Heather: A girl in my class was called Hetty. I changed it into Heather. And then i met my best friend: HEATHER on the internet, so that was coincedence
Scarlet: I knew Scarlet was a color! I didn't know that it could be a girl's name! I like the color red on Ray and his father. Plus, Scarlet's name is made up by Ray's mom. She couldn't understand a word he was saying when she first met him and just thought he said his name was Scarlet. So she started calling him that and Scarlet accepted it.
Anna: Have no idea. Just popped in my head.
Duncan: Hehe, yeah, I think Ive read it somewhere
Rerun: Peanut Comic Books! Just loved it that the little kid was called Rerun. I've used the name in stories before and wanted this Rerun to have that name too
Blaise: I think I saw it in the End Credits of a movie somewhere.
Constance: My mom's cousin is called Constance! I thought this name was so old fashioned, but was so attracted to it at the same time!

Leen: Leendert fully. A really horrible name (sorry people, called Leendert! Ill call you Leen! I like that name). I just like the sound of Lain (prenounce it as Lain or Lane)
Sherryl: Ow dear, I hate that name. I don't know where I came up with that!
Anthony: Man, I love that name! I think I got it from a dutch actor: Anthony Kamerling.
Noah: Noah is one of the many names I used ages for my stories! I love the swing of it!
Kate: Normal name for a normal girl! And she knows what she's doing, so I started her name with my first letter! XD
Tycho: Got it from a dutch book about gay guys in the USA! It rawks, I love that book!
